Author Guidelines

Artificial Intelligence Research and Applications (AIra) is a scholarly, peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal disseminating cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence (AI). As AI continues to evolve and impact numerous fields, AIra is an important platform for researchers, academicians, and industry professionals to present their latest findings, theories, methodologies, and applications in AI. The journal aims to promote innovation, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and support responsible and ethical development of AI technologies.

AIra publishes two main types of contributions: Research Articles and Review Articles. Detailed information about these two article types is provided in the lower sections of this page, following the Author Guidelines. Both article types follow the same manuscript template and formatting requirements.

A. INITIAL SUBMISSION

AIra adopts a “Your Paper Your Way” approach for initial submissions. Authors are allowed to submit their manuscripts in a flexible format at the first stage. However, all submissions must strictly comply with the following essential requirements.

Double-Blind Review Requirement: To ensure a proper double-blind peer review process:

  • Author names, affiliations, and any identifying information MUST NOT appear anywhere in the manuscript file.
  • This includes, but is not limited to, author names, affiliations, email addresses, ORCID identifiers, acknowledgments, author contributions, or any other statements revealing institutional or personal information.
  • Self-identifying references must be avoided or anonymized.
  • Acknowledgment section must be removed or written as “Not Applicable” during initial submission.

Author Information (MANDATORY in System): While the manuscript must be anonymized:

  • All authors’ full names, affiliations, and email addresses MUST be entered completely in the submission system (OJS metadata).
  • The corresponding author must be clearly identified in the system.

Formatting Flexibility (Your Paper Your Way): At the initial submission stage:

  • Strict template formatting is NOT required.
  • Reference style may be flexible.
  • Layout and formatting may vary.
  • However, the manuscript must be clear, readable, and scientifically structured.

Mandatory Files for Submission

The following documents are mandatory for submission and must be uploaded to the system at the time of manuscript submission:

  • Corresponding Author Contact Information: a document providing the contact details of the corresponding author, including full name, affiliation, institutional email address, and a valid and reachable mobile phone number; this document should be uploaded as a Word or PDF file.
  • ORCID IDs for All Authors: a document listing the ORCID IDs of all authors; this document should be uploaded as a Word or PDF file.
  • Main Manuscript (with Author Information): the complete manuscript including all author details such as names, affiliations, email addresses, acknowledgements, funding information, and author contributions.
  • Blinded Manuscript (for Double-Blind Review): a fully anonymized version of the manuscript with all author-identifying information removed, including names, affiliations, author contributions, acknowledgements, funding, and any statements revealing the authors or their institutions/countries.
  • Author Contributions: a statement clearly describing the individual contributions of each author to the study and manuscript preparation, specifying each author’s role (e.g., conceptualization, methodology, writing – original draft, supervision, etc.); this document should be uploaded as a Word or PDF file.
  • Conflict of Interest: a declaration disclosing any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest related to the work, or stating that no conflict of interest exists; this document should be uploaded as a Word or PDF file.

Language:

AIra accepts manuscripts only in English. All elements of the submission—including the title, abstract, main text, figures, tables, captions, and any supplementary materials—must be written in clear, concise, and grammatically correct English. Manuscripts submitted in other languages will not be considered for review. Authors are fully responsible for ensuring the linguistic quality and readability of their manuscripts prior to submission.

B. ACCEPTED PAPERS (CAMERA-READY GUIDELINES)

All accepted manuscripts MUST be prepared using the official AIra template for accepted papers.

  • Click here to download the Template for Accepted Papers.

Please note that no structural or formatting deviations are allowed on the above template.

Author Identification (ORCID)

For accepted manuscripts, all authors are required to provide their ORCID iDs. ORCID iDs must be included next to each author’s name. The ORCID icon should be inserted and linked to the author’s ORCID profile. Authors are responsible for ensuring that their ORCID links are correct and active.

Abbreviations and Acronyms

All abbreviations and acronyms must be clearly defined at their first occurrence in the main text, even if they have already been defined in the abstract. Common standard abbreviations such as IEEE, SI, MKS, CGS, AC, DC, and RMS do not require definition. Authors should ensure that abbreviations are used consistently throughout the manuscript, excessive or unnecessary abbreviations are avoided and each abbreviation is defined only once and reused consistently thereafter.

Abstract and Keywords

All manuscripts must include an abstract of no more than 250 words. The abstract should provide a clear, concise, and comprehensive summary of the study, including its purpose, methodology, main results, and key contributions. The abstract must be self-contained and understandable without reference to the full text. Therefore:

  • It must NOT contain citations to other published works.
  • It should avoid undefined abbreviations and symbols.
  • It should clearly highlight the novelty and main contributions of the study.

Following the abstract, authors must provide 3 to 5 keywords that accurately represent the content of the manuscript and support indexing and discoverability. Keywords should be:

  • Specific and descriptive
  • Relevant to the main topics of the study
  • Free of unnecessary repetition or overly general terms

Formatting and Layout

All accepted manuscripts must strictly comply with the following formatting and layout requirements. Manuscripts that do not conform to these rules may be returned for correction prior to publication.

  • The Title, Authors, Abstract, and Keywords sections must be prepared in a single-column layout.
  • The remaining content must be formatted in two-column layout.
  • Each column must be 8.7 cm wide, with a 0.6 cm space between columns.
  • Page margins must be set to 2.4 cm (top and bottom) and 1.5 cm (left and right).
  • All text, including headings, must be in Times New Roman, 10 pt, with single line spacing (1.0).
  • The first-line indentation of paragraphs must be 0.63 cm (0.24 in).
  • Paragraph spacing must be set to 0 pt before and 6 pt after for normal text.
  • References must be indicated by numbers in square brackets within the text. Authors’ names may be mentioned in the text; however, the corresponding reference number(s) must always be provided. Example: “… as demonstrated in [3, 6]. Barnaby and Jones [8] obtained a different result …”

Headings

All heading styles must be applied consistently throughout the manuscript and must strictly follow the journal’s formatting rules. Authors must not create custom heading styles or deviate from the template.

First-Level Headings (Section Titles): Must be written in bold, use Title Case, and be numbered sequentially (e.g., 1., 2., 3.). They must be left-aligned and formatted with 12 pt spacing before and after. These headings represent the main sections of the manuscript and must be applied consistently throughout.

Second-Level Headings (Subsections): Second-level headings must be written in italic (not bold), use Title Case, and be numbered as 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, …. They must be left-aligned and formatted with 12 pt spacing before and after. These headings are used to organize subsections within the main sections.

Third-Level and Lower-Level Headings: Third-level and lower-level headings must be written in italic (not bold), use sentence case (only the first word capitalized), and be numbered as 1.1.1, 1.1.2, …. These headings should be used only when necessary, and excessive subdivision should be avoided to maintain clarity and readability.

Equations

Equations should be created using the equation editor of the word processor or appropriate mathematical software. All symbols must be defined either before or immediately after the equation appears. Equations should be cited as “Eq. (1)” or “equation (1)”. Equation numbers should be placed in parentheses and aligned to the right margin. For clarity and compactness, use appropriate mathematical notation such as the solidus (/), exponential functions, or exponents. Roman symbols for variables should be italicized, whereas Greek symbols should not be italicized. Use a proper minus sign instead of a hyphen. Equations must be centered, and equation numbers should be placed in parentheses and aligned to the right margin. Equations should be punctuated appropriately when they are part of a sentence. For example:

x[n]=x(nT_s),n=0,1,...,N-1

(1)

To ensure proper alignment, equations must be formatted using a two-column, single-row table with no visible borders, where the equation is placed in the left column and the equation number is placed in the right column.

Figure and Table Properties

All figures must be provided at the appropriate resolution:

  • Black-and-white and colour photographs: 300 dpi
  • Graphs, drawings, and line art: 800 dpi preferred (600 dpi minimum)
  • Combination of photographs and drawings (colour or grayscale): 500 dpi

Figures must be inserted into the manuscript in TIFF or JPEG format and labelled sequentially (e.g., Fig. 1, Fig. 2a, etc.). Figures should be cited in the text as “Fig. 1” within sentences and as “Figure 1” at the beginning of sentences. All figures must be referenced in the text before they appear. Explanatory text related to each figure should be provided prior to the figure itself.

Figures and tables should be placed at the top or bottom of the page, following the accepted article format. Table captions should follow the same style as figure captions (e.g., “Table 1. Appearance styles.”). Tables must be referenced in the text using the full form (e.g., “Table 1”).

Figure captions must be centred below the figures. Table captions must be placed above the tables and aligned to the left; when a table caption spans two or more lines, it should be justified. All figures and tables must be cited in the text before they appear.

Article Types and Length Limits

AIra accepts submissions in the following categories:

  • Research Papers: Maximum 12 printed pages (two-column format, including figures and tables)
  • Technical Notes and Letters: Maximum 2,000 words
  • Review Papers: Maximum 20 printed pages (two-column format, including figures and tables)
  • Manuscripts exceeding these limits require prior approval from the Editor-in-Chief.

Author Declarations and Ethical Statements

All manuscripts must include the following statements to ensure transparency, accountability, and compliance with ethical publishing standards. Immediately following the conclusion, the manuscript must include the sections titled Author Contributions, Acknowledgements, and Conflict of Interest.

Author Contributions: Authors must clearly specify the individual contributions of each author (e.g., Conceptualization, Methodology, Software, Validation, Writing – Original Draft, Supervision, etc.). Example: "A.B. conceptualized and supervised the study; C.D. performed the data analysis; E.F. drafted the manuscript; all authors reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript."

Acknowledgements: Authors may acknowledge any individual, institution, or organization that contributed to the study but does not meet the criteria for authorship. If there are no acknowledgements, authors must state: “Not applicable.”

Conflict of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that could influence the results or interpretation of the study. If no conflict exists, authors must state: “The authors declare no conflict of interest.”

Nomenclature (Optional)

The Nomenclature section is optional, but strongly recommended for manuscripts with intensive mathematical formulations or technical notation. If the manuscript contains a large number of symbols, abbreviations, or technical variables that cannot be clearly defined within the text, authors are encouraged to provide a Nomenclature section.

This section should be placed after the Conclusion section and before the Author Declarations and Ethical Statements section. The nomenclature must be presented in a table format, prepared in accordance with the journal’s table formatting rules. Each symbol, abbreviation, or variable must be clearly defined, and units should be provided where applicable. Authors should ensure that:

  • Symbols are listed in a logical and consistent order (e.g., alphabetical).
  • Notation is consistent with that used in the manuscript.
  • Only relevant and necessary items are included.
